Deliver Me

The first is finished.
The dreaded first acrylic painting is over. Really the fear of having to give into the mistakes and the learning curve that a new medium presents is now over. I have fully given myself over to not exactly knowing what I am exactly doing with the paint, and it has been so much fun. I used on old canvas with newspaper coated/collaged on it from an old project. Although it was a little bumpy to paint on, I actually like the “crafty” appearance the paper gave the piece.
On a much more serious note, I made this painting as a representation of what so many Christians (including myself) have most likely felt at some point in their lives, especially within the past year. It can be so discouraging to see the evil in the world. Basically, it comes down to the fact that all we can do is call out to God for help when we are drowning in the heaviness and negativity that surrounds us. Here is a little excerpt of a chapter I was reading in Psalms that inspired this piece
“Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters. Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me. Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good; according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.” -Psalm 69:14-16
