Artist Statement:
My work is a window into the complex journey that is often accompanied throughout life. Eerie landscapes filled with deep waters, misty forests, and jagged canyons represent the brooding obstacles found in the day to day, with each challenge appearing just as bleak as the next. Still, though the path be overwhelmed with somber tones, the marks of thread exude optimism as they are either intertwined throughout my work or used to create an oval, window-like frame into another realm. The traces of embroidery steadfastly highlight the way within each piece. Resembling glimmers of light, the stitches starkly contrast against the shadows and shapes developed through the use of charcoal. The choice of oval borders explores the concept of my work being a portal in which one can view the duality of the sublime as contemplative beauty seems to only be possible through the presence of overpowering, solemn tones. This showcases that even in the forlorn there is an unmistakable and immovable hope.
